Tahoma Audubon Fundraiser

Tahoma Audubob Society Fundraiser project - decorating bird ornaments [flying goose and loon].

Collaging the loon ornament with postcard and various papers. Back East in CT, the loons only came to Crystal Lake in Ellington in the Spring or Fall during migration.  Otherwise we'd see them when camping in upper regions of Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine.

Collaged the flying goose ornament with my larger collage "Blue Moon" image that was on the reception/ehibit post card for a recent exhibit.

Here are the finished ornaments.  If you would like to attend the Feb 6 banquet, just check out the details at www.TahomaAudubon.org

Art-o-Mat Blocks - almost finished

Finished adhereing the Sumi-e and info/contact label onto the fifty blocks last night... they looked unfinished to me.  This morning, I painted the edges with black acrylic paint...  was very difficult not to hit the white paper on either side of the block[Sumi-e painting or info/contact label].
All I have left is to stamp my seal and intial each block and finally wrap the cellophane onto the block.  The cellophane is necessary to help the block slide through the cigarette machine.... Planning to ship back tomorrow to Artists in Cellophane.

Art-o-Mat blocks

Worked for about 3 hours on painting mini Sumi-e for the Art-o-Mat blocks... painted about 30 minis

Today I'm adhering some of the paintings directly to the blocks... last time I wrapped the block in paper with contact info , etc and then adhered the Sumi-e... This is so much faster and I like the rough edges.

Guess what time it is.... Time for Art-o-Mat blocks.
Arrived yesterday so that's what my goal is for today...

My Sumi-e set up - ready to grind the ink and begin painting for the art bock art...

Tahoma Audubon, Fundraiser Project - Banguet on Feb 6th

Fundraiser Fun...  decorating shapes - I'll be doing a duck and a flying goose probably in collage...

Like many others, the recent recession has been hard on Tahoma Audubon, the Pierce County chapter of the National Audubon Society.  To help this volunteer-driven organization continue its important conservation work and popular environmental education programs, local artists are designing unique collections of bird-shaped wooden ornaments, which will be sold as a fundraiser at the February 6 Tahoma Audubon annual banquet.

Artists including Dale Thompson, Mauricio Robalino and Monica Weidman have already joined in the fun!

The birds include shapes of a duck, flying goose, Great Blue Heron, chickadee, hummingbird, and gull. Artists can choose any medium to decorate the unfinished wooden shape (paint, pen, stain, fabric, glitter, glass, jewels, you name it!). You can choose to decorate a collection of all 6 shapes, or select from among the shapes which one(s) you prefer. The back side should be painted solid or in a simple design so that you can inscribe your name and “Tahoma Audubon 2010” on the back. The birds are about 3 to 3 ½ inches by 2 inches in size, and 1/8 inch thick. The finished pieces need to be returned to the Tahoma Audubon office in University Place, or to the Tacoma Nature Center, by Jan.30.

The birds will be used as centerpieces and decoration at the banquet, and then sold as a fundraiser at the event. All proceeds will directly benefit the conservation and education programs of Tahoma Audubon.

If you are interested or have questions, please contact Melissa Paulson at mpaulso@co.pierce.wa.us or Margie Shea at marjories@tacomaparks.com. Or call Margie at 253-591-6439.

And if you would like to attend the Feb 6 banquet, just check out the details at www.TahomaAudubon.org .

Of Course - More valentine Cards

I'll be shipping some of these cards to Amy at Tacoma Metal Arts Center tomorrow...  On Thursday I'll be bring Valentine and Sumi-e cards up to the Shoreline - Lake Forest Park Art Commisson's Gallery - the opening for the 3-person exhibit "Intuition" is Thursday Jan 14th from 5 to 7 pm!

Organizational Blitz

I'm still reorganizing and clearing clutter - I actually like a tidy work space...
Should have taken a picture of the Ex-Dining Room aka framing, art teaching supply storage/files and sewing workroom before I straightened it up....
Chair Affair project chair is finished as far as the paint - just have to reulpholster the chair cushion - hmmm what happened to the spell check icon?

Next - my mini jewelry workbench arrived on Friday!  Yes, I have to clear the shelf before I use the torch and bring a fire extinguisher into the room but the flame size is about a half inch and very concentrated.  need another multi- power cord outlet, find the "key" for the flex-shaft, find the piece of sterling silver sheet that I put in a safe place - and I'll be back to my first love - being a silversmith!

Back Working on Chair Affair Project

Starting working on my Chair Affair project today - porch was barely the right temperature to be spraying paint!!!!  Had to sand and re-glue the left arm back onto the frame as it was very wobbly

Screwing the arm back onto the base.

Spraying the chair black - luckily I don't care about the floor...

Spritzing the "bamboo" joints with gold.... then a little black, back and forth.
Then a final coat of sealer! Chair is finished as far as painting...

More Valentine Cards and sold another piece

Framed Blue Sky Harmony last night into a 12X12" Nielson flat black metal frame with a double cut mat - white with black interior.  The client was very happy with the look... she had been admiring it for sometime on my website.

Despite still having a major sinus headache I made more Valentine's cards today.  Have 43 blank note cards to go...

Unfortunately tomorrows class in watercolor pencil has been cancelled at the Manitou Art Center in Tacoma; Olympia Parks and Recreation Saturday's children's Mimic the Masters class has been cancelled and most likely Art for Adults which currerntly has three enrolled will probably be cancelled... not a good start to the my new year as a independent teaching artist!

More Valentine cards and art sales

Have all my collage materials out to produce some more Valentine blank note cards tomorrow.  Will drop some off at Traditions in Olympia on Monday or Tuesday.  I shipped a batch to The Gallery, Bainbridge Arts & Crafts and I will bring some up to The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council Gallery on Thursday Jan 14th...

I have one sale pending and one sale completed to start the New Year off in a positive state of mind!
I am excited about a query for a piece from my website - an enso with Kanji character.

I learned of a sale through www.shopthefrontier.com and will ship that watercolor pencil piece out tomorrow.

Intuition Exhibit Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council Gallery

Dropped my work off at the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council Gallery Thursday, Dec 31. What a wild ride up as the rain was so heavy and traffic on I-5 just doesn't slow down.  The ride back down was even worse between the downpours and stop & go/parking lot traffic jams.

The reception is on Thursday Jan 14 from 5 to 7 pm...
