Shoreline Forrest Park Arts Commission Gallery news

Picked up my art work early from the Shoreline Forrest Park Art Commission Gallery in Forest Park yesterday.  Finaaly photographed the display...  I will still have my Sumi-e and collage blank notecards avaiable for sale at the gallery.

Inward Song viewed from front window...
Wall one of Zen Collages - Flourescent lights, oh my!
part of grouping on white wall
sold a collage... I have to say this is the first of my Zen Collages [size 20X16 or 16X20} to sell!

I was waiting to take them down and getting the boxes ready at the Shoreline Forrest Park Arts Commission Gallery.

A shopper/client was picking out some things. Carla said to her, this is one of our artists.

Carol, shopper said "which ones", so I was showing her some of my details like handmade paper, hand cast faces, and here's Suminagahshi, Japanese paper marbling... its the piece on the left in this image - Qualitative
She said "I didn't even see them as I was looking at the items on the floor."

She finishes her purchases but asks "how big is that piece, I have my tape with me." So they went to measure as I said 16HX20..

"I think I have the perfect spot for this. How long is going to be here, I can check it on Monday."

I said I was taking them down as I had an exhibit to hang on Monday.

She said... "let me get my color sample kit, I live close by..." within 10 minutes she was back and the colors went well - ta Dah...

there was some other additional chatting about how peaceful the design was, etc...

So its going in her foyer and will be the first thing her guests see!!!!

a happy customer! happy artist and happy Carla!

so a whole lotta Happy was going on!!!!So here's the great story -

Message from Stone Soup - Shop the Frontier

From Betty Buckley, Executive Director of Stone Soup:

Last spring Stone Soup celebrated its tenth anniversary. This spring, sadly, we have to shut our doors.

After a wonderful decade of working on rural economic and arts development programs, Stone Soup is closing our doors as of March 31. We managed to stay open despite recessions and vanishing grants, but this is no longer possible. In years past we have been extremely fortunate to receive funding from a number of major foundations including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USDA Rural Development, Verizon, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard and others. But these organizations have either shifted priorities, or we have reached the maximum number of grants allowed. Over these years we\'ve aided thousands of rural families by serving as an incubator for rural arts; teaching art, business and technology classes, and providing a professional venue for rural artists. Our microloans have helped people start small businesses. Though it\'s sad to see things end, we know that the skills training we provided along with the skills of the artists and entrepreneurs themselves have combined to create a pathway to success for many.

Our website will continue for the time being with members shipping product from their homes. We hope to find a buyer for the website and, as a way of thanking our most loyal members, we are working with another organization to arrange a new sales venue for their products.

We want to thank the many people in Republic and the surrounding area that supported our efforts by buying the beautiful products made by dozens of talented artists and artisans.

On a personal note, I want to thank the Stone Soup staff who gave so much of themselves to the program, and who worked hard to make rural arts a viable income stream for so many families. Their dedication and innovation made it possible to stay viable for as long as we did. It has been my pleasure to work with these dedicated women and I wish them every possible success in the future.

Travel Sketching/Watercolor/Pencil Workshop June 26th from 9 to 2pm

Ever wonder why we rarely relive our travels through photos? Perhaps because taking a photo requires so little investment of one’s attention. Artistic journaling slows your pace, as you observe a scene for at least as long as it takes to sketch it. Journaling is solely for pleasure – it doesn’t require that you be an accomplished artist. Regardless of skill level, you’ll be amazed how quickly your drawing and watercolor skills improve – within hours! We'll visit and sketch some of Olympia’s interesting locales. By the end of the workshop, you’ll be dedicated to journaling. Olympia Parks and Recreation – 222 Columbia Street NW, Olympia WA 98501 www.olympiawa.gov/experienceit Call 360.753.8380
