2010 Chair Affair - Furnishing Hope
I've signed up for this wonderful fundraiser...
2010 Chair Affair will be held at the Tacoma Art Museum on the evening of March 4th, 2010. Artists will be recognized with a photo and bio displayed next to their chair, as well as in several other print locations (like the program).
Chair Affair 2010 - Furnishing Hope
Artist Guidelines:
Please read the following guidelines and keep them in consideration while designing your chair/item. These requirements must be met in order for your chair/other piece of furniture to be displayed in the silent and/or live auction.
1. The item must be fully complete with all items securely attached to it. If a piece of decoration falls off the chair it will be considered broken and will not be displayed.
2. The items must be safe (no broken glass, sharp metal, etc.) and appropriate for viewing by patrons of all ages. Pieces deemed dangerous or inappropriate will not be displayed.
3. The chair/items ideally should be functional and usable in a home or business. If it is not weight bearing and is meant only for decoration please make sure to clearly state that in the chair description.
4. Do not reproduce logos or other copyrighted written material on your piece. However, it is OK to be inspired by other works of art or images in popular culture, as long as you make significant changes in your interpretation of the original.
5. Always bear in mind that your objective is to create a work of art that will raise as much money as possible for the NW Furniture Bank. Themes that appeal to the general public, as well as furniture that is designed specifically for children, most consistently bring in great revenue.
6. Please include your name on the underside of the chair as well as attaching a copy of the Artist Information form to the chair. Be sure both the chair and the form arrive at NW Furniture Bank by Friday, February 5th, 2010.
7. The NW Furniture Bank is a non-profit organization and the money and time you spend designing the chair is tax deductible. Please save your receipts--we will provide a receipt letter to verify your donation after the event.
8. You will receive one free ticket and the opportunity to purchase additional tickets to Chair Affair 2010 upon return of your chair/furniture piece. Please invite and encourage others to purchase tickets to the Affair.
9. If you decide not to create a piece for Chair Affair 2010, please notify us no later than Dec. 1st, and arrange to return your selected item for use by another artist.
10. If you have any questions regarding the Artist Guidelines, please call Dion Rurik at 253-229-0269 or e-mail: drurik@gmail.com

Cannon Beach Arts Association Miniature Exhibit
Prepared my entries for the Cannon Beach Arts Association Annual Miniature Exhibit... Fellow artist Joanne Osband and I are shipping our pieces today. The Deadline for submissions is Nov 4th... Exhibit hangs from then to November 30th.
Here is the announcement:
The Cannon Beach Gallery, a program of the non-profit Cannon Beach Arts Association, is calling for original art submissions for it's annual All Juried Miniatures Show. Artists should drop off work on Thursday, November 5 from 10-4 pm. There is an application fee: $10 for non-members, $5 for CBAA members, free for active gallery docents. An individual membership to CBAA is $25 annually.
For the 2009 Miniatures Show, artists may submit as many pieces as they like for consideration by our guest juror. All work needs to be 6" x 6" or smaller (not including the frame).
All art work must be an original (no reproductions) in any medium and completed within the last two years. Please do not bring work that has been shown in past shows at the Cannon Beach Gallery. All work needs to be for sale and exhibition ready.
The Cannon Beach Gallery takes a 40% commission. Exhibition ready: all work needs to have a wire secured to the back to hang the work from the wall. If the hanging committee has to rewire the work, it may not be hung.
There are consignment agreements and juried forms available at the gallery (1064 S. Hemlock ST, open Thurs. - Mon. from 10-4 pm) or on our website, www.cannonbeacharts.org. If an artist would like to be added to our artist list (or removed) please email: cannonbeacharts@gmail.com
Artwork that is not accepted into the show needs to be picked up between November 7 - November 14, 2009 during regular gallery hours. The Cannon Beach Gallery has limited storage space, so the timely pick of artwork is appreciated. Artwork that is juried into the show will need to be picked up on Monday, November 30, 2009 unless other arrangements are made with the gallery director.

Kirkland Library Banned Book Project
Worked on Robert Cormier's "The Chocolate War" project today. Kirkland Library will have their annual Banned book art display in December. Bought the cake plate at Goodwill, chocolate wrappers at Jo Anns... Second image shows a cut up Styrofoam ball for chocolate shapes.
Extra foil candy wrappers crumpled...
Lots of brown acrylic paint... sticking the book to the plate and adhering my fake chocolates - also gluing the pages shut. Point is not to be able for anyone to read the book...

Now I have to write my statement, fix the "dome" cover, etc....

The rules are - there ain't no rules! But its better for all involved if the door is attractive enough to attract a buyer.Door can be any size, any shape or any material. It can be a pocket door, a screen door, a cabinet door, a car door, an airplane door - if its a door then it qualifies.Does it have to be usable as a door? No. In order for the buyer to use it as a door, your door would have to meet the measurements of the door jam they intend to install it. We will ask you to measure your door and label it just in case someone is looking for dimensions but last year my impression was that people just bought the door they liked and leaned it against a wall in their homes as if it were a giant painting.

Collage: Exploring the Written Word through Art
Monday March 29 to April 26from 6 to 8 pm [material fee - $5.00]
In this workshop, participants will create a series of five small collages, each with a Muse/Guide as the focal point. Creative people visually benefit from stretching their ‘writing legs.’ Likewise, for writers to confront visual material enhances their own process. After the completion of each collage, a short paragraph based on a writing prompt/exercise will be completed that ties into the particular piece of artwork like “Is this Muse/Guide trying to tell you something?”
